The course examines how strategic place management can address complex and interconnected societal challenges—such as education, unemployment, healthcare, civil society, and natural resource management—while promoting sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
Immersed in a rich international learning environment, students will acquire the analytical and practical tools needed to:
-
Address policy problems at the local and regional level;
-
Identify and design effective solutions;
-
Support decision makers in implementing responsible, efficient, and sustainable development strategies;
-
Communicate the impact of public policy in relation to the UN SDGs across different governance contexts.
Research Project and Collaboration
Students will work in multinational research teams, each including participants from Augsburg, Bergamo, and Indiana University. Together, they will explore strategic management and sustainable development of regional and local economies, using the host institutions’ regions as real-world case studies.
Throughout the three weeks, participants will:
-
Join scheduled online classes and guest lectures;
-
Attend regular progress meetings with teaching assistants;
-
Engage in self-directed research supported by faculty and teaching assistants;
-
Present their final research projects at the end of the program.
Lectures and Guest Speakers
A diverse lineup of lectures and guest speakers will deepen participants’ understanding of:
-
Economic development and local/regional policy;
-
The interaction between public and private sectors;
